Blast from the past: Yahoo!

Posted on Wednesday, April 2nd 2008 7:15 pm by menj in Internet

I still remember when I first came across Yahoo! in 1998. At the time I did not know what search engines were and I did had a hard time finding what I needed. Yahoo! was the search engine of that era (before the rise of the Big G) and I did use it for some time but only sparingly. That is, until they bought over Rocketmail and then Geocities. I then had no choice but was “forced” to use their service.

I came across this screenshot of Yahoo! in 1998. Ah, the nostalgia….

      I’ve ran into two in the past two days.

      Appearently, an exboyfriend has tracked me down right here through Yahoo Answers. Gee, could it be because I use an actual picture of myself?

      The other happened when I went up to the store just now. Haven’t seen her in about 15 years, and had she not approached me, I probably wouldn’t have recognized her.

      This was written a long time ago and was based on a line or a few lines from Neonman:

      A Note to the Revolutionaries of Yahoo

      Aisles, Lists and Men
      Row upon row they stand
      Useful complicated, grand
      Disposable in the end;
      Aisles, lists and men.

      The sin qua non of orders
      Systems, sets and borders
      Czechs, Chechnians and Croats;
      apples jamming the sorters.

      Systems are ultimately forgotten
      Apples are left for rotten
      Workers, once used, we’re forgetting;
      By kings and warlords besmitten.

      Dominoes fallen into piles
      Men, lists and aisles
      Lined up in perfect sequence
      Words made like vacant smiles.

      It crosses my sensitive liver
      That the complaints go on forever.

      I find bing to be extremely biased, when I searched for “cure” it automatically changed it to “treatment”. Almost if it did not want me to find what I was looking for. It also ignores certain key words, that other search engines do not.

      I’m new to finder and Macs. Can you cut and paste directory paths like you can on a PC? Something I’ve discovered I used to do a lot.

      We have files (word documents) that each department must add data to before we send them out. Some of us are adding information in the incorrect order and we are trying to figure out which active directory user is the one who is adding the information. Is this possible.

      Hello, I am wondering how you delete the contact: Directory Assistance from my Verizon phone. It is the phone number 411, and the last time I checked, you had to pay to use it. I really don’t want to accidentally call this phone number when I just want to call someone else. I have done that before. I just want to be on the safe side and delete that contact as a whole, because I will never need it. How do I go about doing this?

      Thank You!

      If there is anything cheaper, please let me know as I’m investigating this program and want to see if its for real.
      I’ve learned that they have a dream trips membership package and it has nothing to do with becoming a Travel Agent. So far I’ve found no cheaper program and am asking if anyone has.
      I’m making a decision very soon. Thanks for your help.

      I’ve tried a few times with no luck. I see others who have the URL on the profile module of their 360 page, and the page looks normal.

      Thanks.
      I can not find an orange Feed thingy anywhere..Y! homepage, 360 page or Y!A page. ??
      The “Homepage” area is where I have already tried and when I do, all the center modules get really wide. In the “About Me” section..it told me no words longer than 22 characters. So…Help!!
