I’m buying another domain name

Posted on Sunday, April 29th 2007 11:31 pm by menj in Domains

I’m buying yet another domain name, participating in a domain name bulk auction at a well-known domain names forum. The owner seemed anxious to sell his domain names, since he started the bids at $1 with an increment of $2. I bidded for that particular domain name (after checking the Google PR, of course) for $1 and I am quite determined to get it, since the name sounds very commercial. The auction will end in a few hours’ time so unless there is a higher bid than mine, I will be a proud owner of a PR1 domain name for a mere $1.

Probably the cheapest domain that I’ve ever bought.

The domain name will be used for hosting multiple sub-domain blogs for SEO purposes, I will probably be offering paid blogging services on this domain. Oh yes, I have not forgotten about that atheist bitch and the liberals as well, they will also feel the brunt of the domain in action if they try anything funny.

That, coupled with the domains that I already own, puts me in a position to monopolise the web. Heh, talk about megalomania ambitions.

I recently created a flash website with Wix’s free creator, but i want to have a custom domain not something like wix.com/(something)/(something). Instead i want my domain to be like (something).com
That might have been a little confusing to understand lol, I’m sorry. I’ve read what you get if you upgrade, I’m planning on upgrading to the 8.95 a month plan that has no ads, and a custom domain name. But my question is this. Will they provide me with a domain name i want. Or do i have to buy the domain name from another site and then connect it to Wix.

If I BUY a domain name for a website, on say fatcow.com

Then after a year or so I don’t pay the bill anymore. OR want to switch to another hosting site.

Is it possible to delete the domain name and move somewhere else and start from scratch again using the same domain name? Or is it like, once you make that domain name it’s taken forever.

I’m REALLY particular on the name of the website I want (it’s not taken at all) But I wanna make sure that if I make it now, if I can remake it later or whatnot. Thanks!

Does it cost money to transfer it to another host? And how long do I have to stay with godaddy if I register a domain there? If I want to switch to another host can I do that right away? I’m new to this and don’t have the money to go with the website I want to build my website with but I want to secure the .com name I picked.

i just registered a domain name trough a reseller company, but i’m having 2nd thoughts about hosting my web site with them . the main reason is that there are not very reliable, and i’m concerned about who have control over my site (i’m afraid they’ll change my site u c…) . i want to change to another provider but still have my current domain name.. how can i do that?

i asked if they could cancel my domain name so that i can buy it again trough another company but they say they couldn’t …

Also, can my existing provider change my site without my permission?

can any give me some advice?? im not sure what to do.. thanks
and how do i switch a company? who do i contact to ? thanks again, u were all helpful..^^

Hi again. Another question – I’m looking for business advice, including legal advice, and general business chat, but i’m having a hard time finding a variety of forums. Only found one so far (www.investinpixels.com/forum) which was recommended by a friend. Do you know of any others?

      Thanks.

PS: Buying and selling businesses/websites/domain names is a bonus!

Me and a partner are buying a domain name of value. I want to know how, after we have both paid half and half for it, how do we list BOTH our names as owners of this domain? Thanks.

I am not sure how this works legally. If someone were to buy a domain after it had expired and the renew period had ended and the original owner had not renewed could a competing business then legally forward traffic to their own site after buying the domain? In this case the domain is the name of the other business.

I’m currently interested in domain names at the moment, and I’ve come across something rather interesting.
A famous person apparently does not have a trademarked name, and the domain name for his/her name is available.
So, in legal terms, can I claim this domain without going to court?

How can I sell a domain name to someone I know without getting charged commission through one of those broker websites? Is there a simple procedure to sell the domain name to the buyer?

How does a domain name moves to the deleted status ?
What is the time duration for renewing the same after the expiry date of the domain name ?
How many days does the owner has to claim its authority for the Domain Name that he had ?

I have a domain name registered with Dreamhost. I am currently waiting for it to become available for transfer (60days) so I can transfer it to GoDaddy. I’m planning on starting a blog and earning a little money from Google AdSense. What can I do to get people to recognize my blog name and prepare it for the release date?

      Hey,

I’ve got a 2000 pounds sitting in an account I want to do something with, something that will allow me to supplement my monthly income.

At first I looked at Forex because of the high returns, but after looking up on it, it seems that 99% of people lose their money on the foreign exchange unless they really know what they’re are doing. So that’s out of the question.
Has anyone tried a broker, or does anyone know of a legitimate broker who would accept 2k?

I’m looking to build an article based website to run on autopilot, so another idea was to put the money into marketing, specifically ppc addwords. But I’ve not even bought a domain name yet, and I need to look into that more, so I’m not considering that as a strong possibility at the moment.

I only earn 17k per year, so 2k is a lot of money to me. Do you have any ideas you could share?

      Thanks in advance,

      J
Interesting answer from Chaosman so far, I will look into that! I’m looking for something a bit more short term though… please keep the ideas coming!! Thanks again!

My previous website was canceled because the company was bought off by another company so it wasn’t transferable.

Yet I still had my domain for the rest of the contract that ends next year with Melbourne IT

A friend suggested WIX because I’m able to make a free website. They mentioned that I can just forward my account

“forward your domain name to a website. For example, try typing in http://www.forgettablyfamous.com – it will take you to a different site. So, I can still put forgettablyfamous.com on business cards/ flyers/whatever, but create my site with any random domain ”

Except that now I have no idea how to forward my domain to my new website address. I don’t want to pay for an WIX upgrade. Over $59.88 a year seems like too much money for me at the moment

Is there anyway I can do this for free?

I am a photographer and would like to become more professional. This semester, I had to buy a domain name from GoDaddy.com. For the class, we had to use WordPress.
I am now done with the class, but have this domain name for another 9 months. I want to have a photographer’s site, instead of a blog…How do I go about this? Is their a GoDaddy applications I can use, or can I use another site like PhotoBiz…? I’m really confused about it.

I currently am paying someone £16 per year for my domain name of my website and £84 per year for web hosting. I have been paying this for the past 8 years. I have only ever asked him to update 30 photos at one time once and change a view details to a word document linked to it of which I was charged an additional £180. Is it possible for me to get my domain name and pay directly for it and to do my own web hosting and what is involved in doing this.
