Risks of making money online

Posted on by menj in General

Making money online is a great feeling but it is not without its risks. Its not as easy as it seems and the only reason that I am earning online is because I have had enough of being a kuli batak for someone else. I have encountered some problems myself ever since November 2006. Things that suddenly come crashing on you unexpected but I gritted my teeth and marched on. Somehow, I managed to persevere.

Now this is a great article by Jenny How which highlights the risks of making money online. I suggest that you read it if you are serious about doing this full-time. Points 2 and 8 was encountered by yours truly sometime ago and I did blog about it (just do a search in the archives). In any case, the Golden Rule of Making Money Online remains true: do not depend on one stream of income. Diversify. Seek out new opportunities. Try new affiliate programmes, selling text links, paid blogging or PPC (after checking them out to make sure that they are not a fraud, of course). Then sit back and watch the money flowing in :)

Ethical issues concerning the Internet

Posted on Wednesday, June 13th 2007 12:21 am by menj in Internet

On one hand, the Internet satisfies the legitimate desire of people for free access to information, especially when other sources of information are not available or restricted by government and other institutions. It is a valuable tool for students and others who want to use Internet data for their formal academic work and for their efforts at deepening their education.

Ordinary people use the Internet for more information on their health, on products and services offered by business websites, their rights and choices, and other concerns. Tattoos, for example. An increasing number use the Internet to express their opinions, support certain demands and causes, and engage in democratic dialogue.

Internet in the 1990s

Posted on by menj in Internet

In the past life changing technological developments were few and far between. Now technological developments are causing upheavals in the way we live in the space of a few years. We are subjected to constant change and we are faced with the need for constant adaptation. By 1986 the public could access the Internet, and not just scientists and other people with special training using elaborate codes. Information that they could otherwise not access was now easily available and it was not limited to one country but extended to all countries. By the 1990s, accessing data was made even easier for Internet users who could now use the browser of their choice in getting whatever information they wanted from the World Wide Web, even something as obscure as laser hair removal in Chicago.

The establishment of the Internet Service Provider also marked a significant step forward in the development of the Internet, which expanded to an astounding 300,000 hosts or nodes. By 1992 the number had further exploded to more than a million hosts and Internet traffic posted an almost 342,000 percent growth rate. By 1994, the Internet was being used to market products and services. By 1996 40 million people in 150 countries were considered Internet users. In the new millennium, the Internet, which started out as a military network, was transformed into an academic network, is now available to the human community.

Qualified for a Nuffnang cheque

Posted on Tuesday, June 12th 2007 10:04 pm by menj in Blog Ads

Finally I qualified for a Nuffnang cheque, since starting to serve their ads on thr 25th of March 2007. Not bad, I think. But I will not cash in the cheque just yet. I will wait until it accumulates to at least RM200 before I click on the link to initiate the sending of the cheque. Its not that I need the money for prom pictures anyway.

One thing I noticed, however, that the CPC campaigns are not working too well for me. Nuffnang pays quite well per click but heck, even my Google Adsense performs better. Perhaps I need to do something about placement or make mention of the advertiser at least to encourage people to click on the advertisement. Oh yes, since you are reading this, will you be so kind as to support the Nuffnang advertiser of the week in my sidebar?

Mishre Directory

Posted on by menj in Directories

I just started a “new” web directory called Mishre Directory. Actually its not a new web directory. It was an existing sub-domain directory which I appended on with a domain name so that it would be branded and stand on its own. I don’t intend to make any money out of it (yet) so I am keeping the web directory free at the moment until it has a higher PR on the next Google update. Maintaining a free web directory is nothing short of a headache because I get spam links like Orlando cosmetic surgery, Cialis and Viagra and link submissions with keywords stuffing and poor descriptions.

Its fun, but still a headache.

Anyway, like I said, its a free web directory. Take advantage of the offer and submit your websites or blogs to the directory while it lasts.
