I have a serious problem… I want to go back to school to study a TEFL course (to become certified to teach English as a foreign language) and I got accepted by one of the best proframs… I thought that saving my money topay my tuition would be no problem. (There are no loans or scholarships available)… I have a full-time job and began searching for a part-time job.

I’ve been applying for part-timejobs left and right, but with no luck.
I wondered what I was doing wrong and so I went for job counseling at employment security and they said, “It’s nothing you’ve done wrong, it’s just the economy…” but I look at groovejob.com or snagajob.com and there are 700 openings in the area, and I see signs all over the place advertising job openings, so someone is getting hired… but I’ve literally applied to 50 places and had no luck. I managed to get a job at a college bookstore but it was temporary and now I have to start looking all over again. I have my full-time job at school but I have to find a second job soon or I can’t afford my trip, if I ask the people @ the school to change my dates it is going to make a horrible impression.

I would just like advice, why am I having a hard time finding a part-timejob?
I always follow the directions on applications, try to look nice, act courteous, I’ve read loads of articiles about how to write a good cover letter, resume, and ace an interview, and I have had no luck for the past several months…
I have retail experience, restaurant experience, I speak Spanish, English and other languages.
Just advice please! I am so frustrated. Sometimes I feel like I’m not meant to go back to school 🙁 I’m so scared that I’m not going to get to, and I’ve cried myself crazy over this a million times because I want it so much, and I’ve given it my all.
I’m in a job now that doesn’t pay enough for me to live and I’m 29 and live with my mother, and it’s humiliating. I just want to be independent, profesionally employed and I want my life to get started, I want to be able to have the money to enjoy my life and go to school.
If I could just get my training, and my certificate, then I could have all those things. I just feel like throwing up my hands sometimes because it’s so overwhelming to think that my life might pass me by, and no matter how hard I try to achieve my goals, nothing seems to work.
I have to have a part-time job in order to save enough money to go back to school, but no one wants to hire me.
Is it just bad luck? What’s wrong with me?

      Thanks

I have looked at other peoples answers concerning this very matter and am now worried sick. Here is what I have done.
Okay I had been searching for a part time job and had stopped searching…I would say…at least 4 months ago.
So I made an account with SnagAjob.com and I look up the job that I want to put in an application for. Now it’s been a long while since Iv’e done this and can’t clearly remember.
The site sends me to the jobs site to apply for a job. Like I wanted to apply for a kmart job so they send me to their website to fill out the application. I have applied for places such as
Kmart,Krogers, TJMaxx, etc….basically I applied for like 10 jobs. Some of them I had filled out a form right on the spot. Nearly all, if I can remember, asked for my ssn. Like for instance applying for a job at the retirement home (I went there and they gave me a paper, I filled it out there). But I asked my mom and dad and they said that all jobs ask you for your ssn when filling out an application for a job. Should I have any reason to worry? I did this a while ago. Nothing bad has happened thus far.

Yeah, its that time. Parents are leaving the state in 11 months and that is the time I have to get my life situated. I have been saving for the past couple months and have $600. Problem is… I had to drop out of High School to take care of my father, whom is quadriplegic and can’t take care of himself. I work part time taking care of him. I have been applying for jobs for about 4 months now with no hope, everybody wants experience and college students. I also need a car. No transportation, no family or friends to give me a ride. I am currently studying for my GED so hopefully my situation will get better. To the question, what are some good ways to save as much money as possible in the next year? Right now I have no cell phone, and pay about 275 in bills for my parents. I shop at bargains and goodwill, and eat A LOT of Ramen/Pasta, and cheap frozen foods. Every week I search the newspapers for buy 1 get 1 deals to match at WalMart. I only make about 150-200 a week depending on if my father is hospitalized or gone out of the house, and I feed 4 people with my check. What are some other ways for me to save and earn cash? Do you know any good job search sites? Right now I used SnagAJob.

How about sitting in front of the computer all day, searching for a job, using the job-search sites such as Careerbuilder, USA Jobs, or Snagajob, filling out pages of information for their website, then clicking on the link to apply for a real job, only to find out that you have to repeat the information all over again!! Whatever you uploaded to the original site, doesn’t translate to the new one! And you never hear anything from any of these companies, ever?!!?? While filling out a questionaire for a job, if you click on the wrong button by accident because you are using a different computer…it ends your application process right there!!! No chance to correct your mistake, and you aren’t eligible to reapply…What a JOKE!! I think it would be easier to just pound the pavement, going door to door trying to sell my own skills mowing the lawn, doing yard work, or painting, than to continue to do this…..
Good answers all around. I do think that the best way to find a job is to a network, which I lack, so I will have to give that the Best Answer award. Let’s all keep our chin up, and keep going forward. Thanks Everyone!

I will be 16 in a couple of months. I already have a job babysitting for my aunt but when school starts back i will need another job since i babysit in the morning. I would like to already have a job for when school starts back before school actually starts back. Can you apply somewhere that hires 16 year olds right before you turn 16? If so are they still likely to hire you? What are some things you can do to make yourself more likely to get the job? I really need a real job to buy things i want my aunt only pays me 20 dollars a day to babysit for 12 hours. I really wanna start saving up money for college and maybe a car. I can’t really get money from my parents and i like to be as independent as i can at my age, I have asked many questions about how to look for jobs online in my area(LaGrange, Georgia) but i just get comments about getting an online job (which i don’t want!) or comments that don’t help me at all or that have absolutely nothing to do with the question. People have also told me to look at snagajob.com which doesn’t help me very much. I would love to work somewhere at the mall maybe or some kind of department store. I don’t really wanna work at a food place but will if i had no other option. I really need as much help and advice any one can give please help!
I also have a work permit. Can that help me?

All of this happened in ONE day: Monday, I saw an opening at a clothing store on SnagAJob.com and completed the assessment. Afterwards, I called the store to let them know that I completed it, and the manager (who was really bubbly and energetic) said that candidates also needed to go into the store and fill out an application, because it also gave them a chance to meet me. So I went in THAT DAY, met with the same manager and gave them my resume. I met with the manager I spoke to and she gave me a “mini” interview, asking me 5 or 6 questions that I’d get in an interview. We chatted for a good bit! After that, she asked if I had a minute, and sent me back to her boss, where I had a REAL interview! It went really well – it was the most relaxed I’ve ever been, both managers were very cool and warming, and it went great! The second manager also told me that he’d printed my assessment scores already, and that I did well. Right after I left the store, I got a text from one of the references I listed and she told me that the store had already called to do a reference check!

Nothing has ever happened this fast or went this well, so I’d just like to know what you all think. I’ve got a few other interviews lined up next week, but I’m really hoping to hear from this place!! Does it sound like I’ll get the job?

Well I posted on craigslist, snagajob, and other places that I was looking for anything that fell into my hands this summer from a job to an internship at an office. Well after leaving the hook out for the fish in a small pond, someone e-mailed me and wants to share information about an internship he believes he has lined up for me. Seems pretty legit since he left multiple names, adress, numbers, and more.
My only problem is that I have to wake up early/earlier, go work for no money just experience and maybe a future job/career, and I have to leave with my dad/uncle and car pool everyday this summer for no money at all. It’s close but I might have to make them wake up a little earlier because they have to drop me off because of gas and stuff. It can seem troublesome and my dad might deny me the shot. Right after the interview I have to go home obviously but since I am carpooling and it’s one car I either have to go with my mom and pick them up from work that day, and even that it may not even be assured that i get the internship and all that trouble because I don’t know how to drive and it’s better for me I don’t waste gas even if I did know.
Should I just enjoy my summer or take this internship until i get a job. I have been wanting a job for a while now and barley starting to fill out my resume. I am not looking for anything that takes a long time to get, is far away but I have to in order to pull anything off in my current city which has business elsewhere.
It is also up to my dad, I mean working from 8am-6pm as an intern can be a bit ball busting considering you get no pay also what if this person isn’t all that trustworthy saying it is this business and it’s some shack when we get there, my best bet is to check it out and see what is going on for me.
I would like know people’s opinions on this and whether I should go for it until I get a part-time job or look for something else. I mean I need something to keep my busy and right now, and something to fill out my resume properly also i may only be there for the summer, and if a job is offered I may have to reject it until next summer/winter vacation because I am going to college and I am unsure of my timing/classes.
I have to wake up @ 5-6am and be there before IDK when don’t have the info but I know if I go I have to go carpooling there.

I’m trying to find some work cause I’m going to college next year and so i found a job sight called Snagajob.com, and for applying to kohl’s you have to answer these questions and i was hoping if you could help me with the answers. I’ll also input my opinion about it because i really don’t want this to seem like I’m cheating, i just would like someone to help by explaining it to me because i would really like to get this job 🙂 thanx!

      —————————————————

      2. If I felt that I was unable to assist a customer with their concern, I would:
1-Tell them that I am sorry and I don’t know the answer to that.
2-Direct them to customer service for help.
3-Ask them to wait while I try to find someone to help.
4-Ask them if they have a moment to wait while I get the right answer for them.

~This one can be a number of things but i think it may be answer 3 but then again it could be 4 because you can go to C.S. yourself and ask them the question so as not to take the customer out of their shopping experience. I don’t think its 3 because i wouldn’t think that you would wanna bother your higher ups with a simple question because then you just look dumb. But then again i could be wrong. What do you think?

      5. If I felt that I needed more training on a particular task I would:
1-Stop and work on something that I am more comfortable with.
2-Start working and try to figure it out on my own.
3-Ask a fellow Associate to help me get started.
4-Talk to my supervisor and let them know I don’t understand.

~ The 1st and 2nd one seem wrong because the 1st one you wont finish the job you have been asked to do and the 2nd one because it could take you forever to figure out instead of finishing the other things your suppose to do. (i could be wrong though) So now i cant tell which one it is cause you could ask a fellow worker but then the supervisor might want to know that you don’t know so that he/she can see how much your improving or whether you can do this job, but then again you’ll also just seem dumb.

Any info would be helpful thanx again! 🙂

Helloo! well i am 16 going on 17 in a couple months and i was wondering what places i should look to for work? I know its tough right now and i was looking for a job around San Francisco or in the peninsula (not sure if any of you are familiar with these areas) but if youre not a generalization of places to work at would be great. I have had several volunteer experiences working with children and even a little bit of cashiering. Even if you guys know about any websites that i could use. (Other than snagajob or monster or indeed) Thanks a bunch!

I just finished a Tefl course, and my goal is to teach English abroad. I’m finally qualified to teach English abroad, but the trouble is that in order to move to another country, get set up in the EFL profession, and start a new life, you have to have $$$.

I need to save up some money in order to get to this goal. I’ve been substitute teaching, but it doesn’t pay enough for me to save a substantial amount of money. (Frankly I don’t think that they pay substitute teachers OR regular teachers fairly in my district.)

The only decent career I seem to be qualified for is EFL, and I can’t get established in it until I’ve saved some money. I sub every day but the pay is so crappy that there’s no way I can save money with subbing alone.

I must find a way to earn some additional income. I’ve applied for part-time jobs left and right but I haven’t had any luck at all. I see help wanted ads on Snagajob.com, these companies are hiring someone, but I can’t seem to find anything.

Other than a part-time job, what are some ways of earning some extra income? I’m very skeptical of anything online or work-at-home jobs because I realize that many of them are scams.

I speak perfect Spanish (my undergraduate degree is in Spanish) and I would like to tutor Spanish or translate online but I’m not sure how to get started.

I live in North Carolina, an area that’s been hit really hard by the recession. There never was any opportunity in North Carolina, and there’s no opportunity now. That’s one reason I wanna leave.

I really need some ideas, please. Thanks, if you can help me.

So I didnt join the site but I just look at the companies and positions posted that say they’re hiring and I just go to the companies website and try to apply on that website, eg. On SnagAJob it shows that a Target is hiring in my area and I go to the Target’s website and apply there
Is SnagAJob a good source to look for your local jobs hiring in your area? Are the companies listed actually hiring?
I hear its not a good source though but I think its not good to register on snagajob and fill apps on snagajob and you should go to the company’s site to apply Right?
A Pizza Hut near me was posted on SnagAJob and a week ago I went down to that pizza hut and asked if they were hiring and they said they were but theyre only doing online applications(from their own website) so therefore snagajob is legit right? .
Have you or anyone you know gotten a job that was listed on SnagAJob?

I am currently a teenage college student considering looking for a job. I would prefer online applications when possible to save on gas, but it is only a preference. What are the best websites to start my job search? For those of you wondering, campus jobs are all full right now; I have already tried that path. I have a resume prepared, but I do not know where to start looking. What are some of the best websites?

      Friends have suggested:
      –> Snagajob
      –> Monster
      –> Craigslist

What are some other, if not better, suggestions for an online hunt? Please help! Thanks, Yahoo!

I work at local grocery store which is extremely boring. I am tied to a register all day unless I am directed to be on stock. I have a severely crappy attitude towards some co-workers and most of the customers. There is absolutely no opportunity to advance, unless you plan on being a lifer. I’ve worked here for almost 2 years and I’m sick of seeing the same faces of customers who act the same way. I’ve only received a five cent raise and I am one of the hardest workers there. We cannot read, we cannot text or use our phones in any way. Also, it is not busy often so when it does slow down everyone is just standing around like brainless zombies waiting for the next customer to say something inane, such as, “you look bored.” I am really sick of working here and I have been looking everywhere. I have a Snagajob account. I’ve been filling out numerous applications. Absolutely nothing is coming through for me. I was invited to an invitation only seminar for Apple to work there but that hasn’t came through either. The told me lies about how it’s ‘difficult’ to get into Apple.

The crazy thing is that I am in no way stupid, dumb, illiterate or anything else. I have a degree from ITT tech but that doesn’t count for much. I have a decent resume put together I am very bright and energetic and could probably do any task assigned to me if the motivation is right and I have fun. I’d just like to find a job that keeps me busy and challenged, while at the same time helping me to grow as an individual. I don’t want to just move from job to job because then the process repeats itself. I’ll get bored at that job and the next and the next.

      Thanks

First off, let me explain to you my situation here.
I’m 20 years old. I’m living in a trailer park with a family of six kids and 2 adults.
I am on probation currently because of something stupid I did.
I have tattoos, piercings and gauges.
      I recently lost my job.
The family I live with is on cash assistance and food stamps.
I was denied unemployment due to my lack of income in one of their so called “quarters.”
I cannot apply for any kind of assistance because I am registered here through the sheriff’s office and If I do, it will cut into their benefits.
I am not going to risk trying to trick DCF or the government that I live somewhere else so I can get assistance, because if they find out otherwise, I can get into a lot of trouble.
I cannot claim I am giving them rent money so I CAN apply for the assistance, because that would make them lose THEIR assistance.
I cannot go back home due to who my mother married.
I am at risk of being homeless due to our landlord.
I have been trying to go through Polk works, but that process is slow and unrewarding.
I have been looking through snagajob.com and monster.com without any luck.
I have been putting in paper applications without any luck.
I cannot go through job-corp because I am on probation.

Now. Here is my other issue. I have social anxiety. I do not get along very well with others and my customer service sucks. I have extreme paranoia (I can be sitting in the living room and think that everyone elsewhere is talking about me). I am compulsive and do not think my actions through before I do them, which resulted in me being on probation right now. I am extremely emotional, little things make me cry. Depression tops all of this. These things make me have an issue with keeping a regular job.

I AM SMART. I got a 3.8 GPA in high school. I have my diploma. Ended up losing bright futures because of a technicality.

But I can’t just go back to school if I can’t even support myself. I NEED to live on my own.

I have gone to a behavioral health clinic that is for poor people, and I am continuing to go.
But I have high Morales and don’t like drugs which is a big problem. Because in order for me to get a psychological evaluation, the therapists I see has to think I need medication. I don’t want medication. So if I don’t get tested for being CRAZY and put on meds….I would not even be able to apply for SSI.

Even if I changed my mind about the meds….the therapist I am seeing is female (No offense to you ladies) and she is extremely knowitall and gives me lines like: “I have hormones just like you, so what you’re feeling is normal” bullshit.

WHAT IN THE WORLD CAN I DO?
I’m pretty much an introvert and would never hurt myself.
But I feel lost and no guidance what so ever.
I apologize to rose, sorry for not including everything.

      – I am not religious. In fact I have lost faith in christ when I was 14. I have attempted to believe countless times and it just not work for me. I am extremely logical and I cannot just trust what a book says or what others try to convince me of otherwise.

      – I also am very infatuated with alternative styles of dress. I do not have ambition to work a desk job, be a doctor or otherwise be part of the “normal society.” This plays in part with my resentment towards people and what has happened in my past.

      – My dream of actually becoming somewhat involved in society is to own a club/bar, but that is not obtainable right now.

      – Military is also not an option, I had an episode during bootcamp and I am no longer welcomed.

      – Please try and put yourself in my position. My mind works in strange ways and it’s not easy for me to just do what everyone else does.

I’m 20 years old and was recently arrested for shoplifting and false name last month. I need a job, any job, real quick to help pay for legal fees and upcoming fines. I’ve got no prior official work experience. Are there any places/companies/positions that are more lenient or easier to get jobs as? Any recommendations?
